The pricing gap
Okendo’s $19 Essential plan is nearly identical to their Free plan — you’re paying $19/mo for a higher order limit. The features most stores need (AI summaries, Q&A) start at $119/mo. Klaviyo integration — which most Shopify stores use — requires the $299/mo Power plan.
BetterReviews is $149/mo flat and includes all of it: AI-guided collection, moderation, AI summaries, a dedicated CSM, and the Product Pages dashboard. Orders are never counted, so Black Friday costs the same as a quiet week in February.
Where Okendo wins on pricing: If you need less than 50 orders/month, Okendo’s free plan is hard to beat. BetterReviews doesn’t have a free plan — it’s $149/mo after a 14-day free trial. Growth at $119/mo is also cheaper on the sticker if you only need AI summaries and Q&A and you stay under 1,500 orders. What BetterReviews has is a free runway: install, import your reviews and run the widget on them at no charge, and billing only starts when you switch collection on.
The core difference: how reviews are collected
This is where the two products diverge most.
Okendo’s approach: structured forms
Okendo sends an email after purchase — typically 3 days after Shopify’s carrier tracking reports delivery, with a 60-day fallback when delivery is never confirmed. The customer clicks through to a review form with a star rating, text box, photo upload, and (on higher plans) attribute questions like “What’s your age range?” or “Is this true to size?”
This is the standard approach every review app uses. It works — Okendo has collected millions of reviews this way. The attribute data is genuinely useful, especially for fashion and beauty brands where shoppers want to find reviews from people with similar body types or skin tones.
The limitation: forms produce form-shaped reviews. Short, structured, predictable. Most customers leave a star rating, write one sentence, and move on. The attribute data is valuable, but the review text itself is often thin.
BetterReviews’ approach: AI conversations
BetterReviews also sends an email after purchase. Merchants pick when from four Shopify events — order fulfilled (default), delivered (via carrier tracking), paid, or created — with a configurable delay. Delivery-based timing matches Okendo’s default, and our fallback timer (3–30 days, configurable per merchant) catches shipments from carriers that don’t report delivery. Instead of a form, the customer enters a conversation with an AI that knows their specific order. The AI asks natural follow-up questions — “What specifically do you use this for?” “How does it compare to what you had before?” “Any photos?” — and adapts based on the customer’s answers.
A quality assessment system scores each conversation on six dimensions (specificity, use cases, numbers, emotional detail, comparisons, photos) and keeps probing until the review is rich enough to use as marketing copy. If the customer gives short answers, the AI wraps up quickly. If they’re engaged, it draws out more detail.
Customers can always skip to a simple form if they prefer.
What this means in practice: Stamped’s Smart Assist — which uses AI prompts (not conversations) — saw a 40% improvement in review quality vs Judge.me on the same products. A full back-and-forth conversation draws out even more detail.
Where Okendo genuinely excels
Attribute-based reviews
No app does this as well as Okendo. If your products vary by size, fit, skin type, or other personal attributes, Okendo’s structured attribute data helps shoppers find reviews from people like them. This is genuinely valuable for fashion, beauty, supplements, and any category where personal characteristics affect the product experience. BetterReviews doesn’t have this feature.
Platform breadth
Okendo isn’t just a reviews app — it’s a customer marketing platform with loyalty programs, quizzes, referrals, and surveys all sharing unified customer data. If you want one vendor for all of that, Okendo reduces app sprawl. BetterReviews is focused exclusively on reviews and review intelligence.

BetterReviews bills a flat monthly rate regardless of order volume. Okendo’s per-order limits mean a great sales month (Black Friday, product launch) could push you into a higher tier. No surprise bills. Orders, reviews, and review request emails are never metered; the only optional usage charge is Fair auto-recharge for AI-collected reviews past your included amount, and it never spends past the monthly cap you set.
Page speed

These complaints represent less than 3% of reviews — but they cluster around support quality on non-Power plans and pricing confusion. Switching from Okendo
You do not rip Okendo out on day one, and nobody expects you to. The switch runs side by side: Okendo stays live while everything moves across, and billing starts when your widget goes live on your storefront. Not at signup, not when the trial ends.
How it actually goes:
- A person moves your reviews. No import wizard for you to babysit. Reviews, photos, star ratings, dates, and verified buyer status come across, and you get a count-match report per product: reviews in on Okendo, reviews out on BetterReviews, side by side. Any number that does not match gets chased down before anything else moves. A co-founder’s store came off Okendo with 306,000 reviews intact.
- You keep Okendo running while a few test products validate. Only one app should emit review schema on any page under test, and we set that up with you during the side-by-side so Google is not shown competing data.
- Your Google stars get verified. We run your product pages through Google’s own testing tools until the stars read from BetterReviews. You cancel Okendo after that check passes, not before. Stars in search results recover as Google re-indexes your pages, typically within 2-4 weeks of cutover.
- The trial bends to the migration. The standard 14-day trial is for first-time installs. If the switch needs longer, tell Daniel and the extra time is on us.
